Artomatic419! happened…

Lots of work for my first time being in an art show! Artomatic419 was a giant art show, over 400 artists participated for three Saturdays during April in Toledo.

A yarnbomb story.

So back in 2011 a few months after I started yarnbombing, I was on St. Clair Street bombin the parking meters in The Warehouse District of Toledo. This particular day that I am referring to was the first day that I put up several yarnbombs at once that were fairly close together. As I was attaching the yarn to the parking meters a female with the most bubbly and happy personality stopped to tell me how much she enjoys seeing the yarnbombs around town and how happy they make her and that her friend had a parking meter in her studio. She was walking back to her car and I was getting back to yarnbombing.

As that was my first run in with someone who was actually noticing the colorful yarn that was starting to pop up around town I had the sudden idea to offer her one of my yarnbombs for her friends parking meter in the studio. I did not ever see the yarnbomb. I have wondered about it from time to time but that was that and I could only hope that it was hanging somewhere. I have since moved to the downtown area and have met several awesome people and my yarnbombing has evolved tremendously.

THEN, Saturday March 30, 2013….. We were at the Jupmode Funhouse open house when in just some regular conversation with Maureen Brogan (one of those awesome people that I was referring to meeting) said to me “one time before I knew you I came across you yarnbombing and told you my friend had a parking meter and you gave me a yarnbomb!” WHHAAAAT?!?!? I immediately freaked out with excitement! I thought I would always wonder what happened to that yarnbomb and well, here it is!

20130401-150353.jpg

Attached to the parking meter in Maureen’s friends studio! This is what we call a rainbow connection. Even before we knew rainbow connections even existed!

As Vivian Jaffe would say, I think this case is closed! TOLEDOLOVESLOVE!

I’ll call this the WuBomb.

Blue yarnbombs for the kids!

Let’s make lots of blue yarnbombs for the kids of Lucas County! Child abuse is preventable. Wear blue on April 10! Wherever you are – work, school or play – wear blue!

Lucas County Children Services and The Toledo Free Press has asked for BLUE YARNBOMBS to let everyone know that we are standing up against child abuse! This is where I am asking anyone who can knit or crochet to join us! Any and all yarnbombers from around the world, we would love to have a yarnbomb from you to show that the world is standing up against child abuse and domestic violence. It’s a small gesture that can make a big impact! Lets show our love, It will bring tons of smiles to tons of faces.

The yarnbombs will be in front of the LCCS building at 705 Adams Street across from the courthouse. They will be up from April 10-19. I am then going to try to find a permanent location for the blue yarnbombs… a school, shelter, etc… Any shade of blue can be used and there are several dimentions. No matter how big or small of a yarnbomb you make, it can be used. You can ALWAYS find space for a yarnbomb! I can make arrangements for us receiving the yarnbombs on an individual basis.

If you would like to participate please get your blue yarn out and do it for the children! It will be like a big fuzzy blue hug! LOVE THE KIDS!

I will need to have the yarnbombs on April 1st.

You can send and/or drop off yarnbombs to The Toledo Free Press next to The Blarney on Monroe Street Mon-Fri during business hours:

What a HUGE success this was! I could not believe how many yarnbombs came from all over the world!! They stayed up through April and were given to children services, they will display the yarnbombs inside the building.

Newborn yarnbomb

My sister had a baby and I yarnbombed her bed. The best part about it was that all of her doctors & nurses knew of the local yarnbombs and they love it! The nurses did not want her to cut the yarnbomb off the bed but (of course) the nursing manager said no way can that stay on there!

Toledo.com Streetspun CrowdTilt campaign!

Toledo.com asked me if I wanted to be part of a crowdtilt campaign to raise money for the streetspun 2013 yarn fund! we met and talked about it and then it went live. The goal was set at $500 in three weeks. If you get to the goal with donations within the set time period you get the money for your cause. You can go over but if you don’t make the goal, you get nothing. I was a bit nervous to see how it would work and within the first 24 hours, it tilted! I was overwhelmed with happiness and joy! I love this city Toledo, Ohio and I will not let you down! I will make it as colorful as I can! TOLEDO PROVIDES! THANK YOU!

Color and love

It’s pretty obvious that I love color. Everybody needs to have color in their life. This is a perfect example of life with and without color at The Love Wall

20130119-205957.jpg

More color! I ordered business cards and I couldn’t be more happy with them!

20130119-213658.jpg

And one more bit of color… The ugly ball is growing! It’s not really ugly but it’s all scrap yarn tied together.

2012 memories and 2013 dreams

I can’t even begin to express my joy, happiness, love and bliss for the year 2012. I would be proud to say that it was the year of public art for Toledo, Ohio. With all of the art in public spaces in this city, I was happy to contribute so I set out to decorate the streets in colorful and fuzzy yarnbombs. The response that yarnbombs receive from the community is something really special to me and I sincerely cherish all of the kind words, support and messages that people give me. I have met so, so many wonderful people this year… SO many! The year started with some normal parking meter and sign post yarnbombing then things just started to get bigger and brighter and went inter-freaking-national…what?!

ssyb.2012

wallThe Love Wall was born this summer in UpTown and has many yarnbombs from different yarnbombers to add to the love! The wall was organized by Rachel Richardson of Art Corner Toledo and painted by MEDE & Mr. Taylor.  There is a real sense of comfort at The Love Wall. It has visitors from everywhere that come to see and feel that love and occasionally just feel like hugging the 15 foot colorful yarnbomb!

international yb

Then there are the exchanges I did with some very admirable and lovely ladies from The UK, France and Australia. This was quite a memorable experience for me! I mean, we have yarnbombs from three other countries in Toledo…that is global street art…whoa!

bike racks

bike racks…bike racks…bike racks

I want to yarnbomb all the bike racks!

trydg

There is just something about bike racks that really makes me smile.

There are also the travelling Toledoans who have put up streetspun yarnbombs at their travel destinations. One even went international! I feel so special just to know that people want to take time out of their travels to spread some streetspun TOLEDOLOVE!
