A birthday bomb for Eikost
A yarnbomb story.
So back in 2011 a few months after I started yarnbombing, I was on St. Clair Street bombin the parking meters in The Warehouse District of Toledo. This particular day that I am referring to was the first day that I put up several yarnbombs at once that were fairly close together. As I was attaching the yarn to the parking meters a female with the most bubbly and happy personality stopped to tell me how much she enjoys seeing the yarnbombs around town and how happy they make her and that her friend had a parking meter in her studio. She was walking back to her car and I was getting back to yarnbombing.
As that was my first run in with someone who was actually noticing the colorful yarn that was starting to pop up around town I had the sudden idea to offer her one of my yarnbombs for her friends parking meter in the studio. I did not ever see the yarnbomb. I have wondered about it from time to time but that was that and I could only hope that it was hanging somewhere. I have since moved to the downtown area and have met several awesome people and my yarnbombing has evolved tremendously.
THEN, Saturday March 30, 2013….. We were at the Jupmode Funhouse open house when in just some regular conversation with Maureen Brogan (one of those awesome people that I was referring to meeting) said to me “one time before I knew you I came across you yarnbombing and told you my friend had a parking meter and you gave me a yarnbomb!” WHHAAAAT?!?!? I immediately freaked out with excitement! I thought I would always wonder what happened to that yarnbomb and well, here it is!
Attached to the parking meter in Maureen’s friends studio! This is what we call a rainbow connection. Even before we knew rainbow connections even existed!
As Vivian Jaffe would say, I think this case is closed! TOLEDOLOVESLOVE!

Blue yarnbombs for the kids!
Let’s make lots of blue yarnbombs for the kids of Lucas County! Child abuse is preventable. Wear blue on April 10! Wherever you are – work, school or play – wear blue!
Lucas County Children Services and The Toledo Free Press has asked for BLUE YARNBOMBS to let everyone know that we are standing up against child abuse! This is where I am asking anyone who can knit or crochet to join us! Any and all yarnbombers from around the world, we would love to have a yarnbomb from you to show that the world is standing up against child abuse and domestic violence. It’s a small gesture that can make a big impact! Lets show our love, It will bring tons of smiles to tons of faces.
The yarnbombs will be in front of the LCCS building at 705 Adams Street across from the courthouse. They will be up from April 10-19. I am then going to try to find a permanent location for the blue yarnbombs… a school, shelter, etc… Any shade of blue can be used and there are several dimentions. No matter how big or small of a yarnbomb you make, it can be used. You can ALWAYS find space for a yarnbomb! I can make arrangements for us receiving the yarnbombs on an individual basis.
If you would like to participate please get your blue yarn out and do it for the children! It will be like a big fuzzy blue hug! LOVE THE KIDS!
I will need to have the yarnbombs on April 1st.
You can send and/or drop off yarnbombs to The Toledo Free Press next to The Blarney on Monroe Street Mon-Fri during business hours:
Toledo Free Press
605 Monroe St.
Toledo, OH 43604
USA
What a HUGE success this was! I could not believe how many yarnbombs came from all over the world!! They stayed up through April and were given to children services, they will display the yarnbombs inside the building.
